We have been learning about the importance of written response to text. Written response is viewed as the highest level of comprehension because you are able to communicate in writing your learning and viewpoints.
Your blog this week is to answer one of the following questions using RACE (R: Restate the question, A: Answer all parts, C: Cite evidence, E: Explain your thinking). Steps: 1.) Choose one question you'd like to answer. 2.) Use RACE to respond ((R: Restate the question, A: Answer all parts, C: Cite evidence, E: Explain your thinking) 3.) Include the title and the author Questions: 1.) What is your favorite part of your book? Why? 2.) What character are you most alike? Why? 3.) What is the main idea of your book? Example: My favorite part of the book, The Willoughbys, by Lois Lowry is (RESTATE) when the characters in the story dress up to scare away potential buyers of their house (ANSWER). It's my favorite part because I like the creativity the characters use. For example, "Tim dressed as a coat hanger, Jane became the rug, and Nanny dressed herself as a statue," (p.20) (CITE). This quote shows the clever way the Willoughbys tried to scare people trying to buy their home (EXPLAIN).

My favorite part in the book The Hammer of Thor, by Rick Riordan is (R): when Magnus Chase and Hearth both jump out of an airplane to get to a floating world (where the sun is so bright that it can burn your eyes.) To get a special item that will stop there friend from dying. (A): It's my favorite part because, I think it's a funny way to get the reader back into the action of this book! For example, this quote proves it. (C): "Alfhiem, I signed. How do we get there? Jump, Hearth told me. My stomach dropped out from under me. Jump? Jump out of the plane?" (E): This quote shows that they're going to jump out of a plane.

My favorite part in The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder is (R) when Laura gets stuck in a blizzard. (A) It is my favorite part because it uses lots of detail and does great explaining. (C) On page 89 it says her "Her chest sobbed for air and her eyes strained open in the icy snow-partials that hurt like them like sand" (E) this shows how Laura got stuck in a blizzard.

In the book Superfudge by Judy Blume, my favorite part of the book is when Peter and Alex go hunting for worms to give to Mrs. Muldour because they think she actually eats the worms. On page 60, Alex said, “Small ones are sweeter.” Then, they laugh. This saying shows that maybe they think that eating worms isn’t that bad.

My favorite part of the book Snarf Attack, Underfoodle, and the Secret of Life is when he said “ all you need is a butt to put underwear on your butt, but it takes a brain to put underpants on your head.” if you read the book you would get it more. This book is called Snarf Attack, Underfoodle, and the Secret of Life

My favorite part of the book "Stuart Little" is when (R)Stuart buys a model boat that is perfect size for him. (A) I find it so comedic because I can visualize him rowing super fast across the water in a mini boat. (C) " Stuart towed out the boat" and "He rowed really fast, or so it seemed" (E) These sentences can help you visualize a speedy boat. :)

The main idea of the book Land of Stories Worlds Collide by Chris Colfer is when Earth and the fairy tale world collide. The story is about when two wolds collide every thing changes for example "The Otherworld was much bigger than the witches thought." (p.176) this quote shows that the witches might be part of the change.

My favorite part of my book A Whole Nother Story by Dr. Cuthbert Soup is when the kid says "Yes but the dream is always ruined when I finally realize that I am not wearing pants. This is the first time I remembered to were pants and I'm not even allowed to enjoy it. It's not every day you get to pitch a no-hitter in the world series with your pants on." because it's really funny and I don't know what the sport is. That's what makes it awesome.

My favorite part of the book The 39 Story Treehouse by Andy Griffiths is when Terry says "wait a minute the postman is alive I thought he died in the maze of doom". On page 53 the postman was a zombie. No one knew who he was and how he was alive because they thought he died in the maze of doom. Then Andy and Terry got super scared. This is saying that maybe the postman isn't dead.

In the book Big NATE by Lincoln Peirce, my favorite part is when Nate forgot his lunch and snacks so his friend gave him a fortune cookie for snack and shared his lunch with him. In the fortune cookie it said "today you will surpass all others". So at lunch to surpass everybody he decided to try to set a world record by eating a bunch of green beans. This is my favorite part because all the kids were chanting "Eat! Eat! Eat!" and i can imagine that happening at my school. I also think it's funny because he's tried a bunch of different ways to surpass others like making the best drawing of Mrs Godfrey to go in the display case.

My favorite part in the book The Mysterious Benedict Society so far is when all the kids arrive at The Institute and are spying on what is going on inside of the walls. This is my favorite part because they see many amazing things inside of the walls and because they have to stack their suitcases to be able to see over the wall. For example, on page 153, it says "The children stacked their suitcases and took turns standing on them to peek over the wall." It also says, on page 153, " Must be the turbines, Reynie thought. Stick and Kate had come to the same to the same conclusion. This quote shows that the kids were peeking over the wall of The Institute, and seeing many amazing things. That is RACE kids.

My favorite part in the book Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, is when Jack, the main character says he needs a crew. This is my favorite part because according to page 49 it states, "well if we needed anyone, we will not let you know." This is my favorite part so far because it is the only funny one.

In the book No Talking by Andrew Clements my favorite part of the book is when Dave trys not to talk for a whole day I'm alike him because I like to do dares too the main idea of this book sofar is trying not to talk for a whole day. A quote from the text is "Boys never talk as much as girls do." I don't think it matters if you are a boy or girl. It depends on your personality because some might be shy and some might be chatty. It does not matter what gender you are.

My favorite of the book Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea, is the part when Peter messes around in the bathroom, "Once you're in the bathroom, it's mess around time" (p.2). This is my favorite part because it's really entertaining that he tries to trick his teacher.
