As we get our book club books underway, we will circle back around to focusing on narrative writing and story mountains. This week, our focus is on the exposition (the way the author sets up the story including setting and characters).
Here is your assignment: 1.) Using your book club book, explain the exposition of your book. This means you must include a description of the setting and the main character. Example: In the book, Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea, the setting is at Snow Hill School in Connecticut. Many of the scenes are set in Mr. Terupt's classroom, as well as in the characters' homes including Anna's, Jeffrey's, Jessica's, and Mr. Terupt's hospital room. There are seven main characters in this book including Anna, Jessica, Jeffrey, Peter, Luke, Alexia, and Danielle. This completes the exposition of the book Because of Mr. Terupt.

In the book Holes by Louis Sachar, the setting is Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake is over 100 years old. Camp Green Lake is now just a dry flat wasteland. The weather there is very hot and usually 95 degrees. It is very dusty there. There are scorpions, rattlesnakes or yellow spotted lizards. I haven’t gotten too far in the book yet, but the main character so far is Stanley. Stanley has a poor family and has a big imagination. I know this because on page 6, it says “when Stanley was younger, he used to play with stuffed animals and pretend the animals were at camp with him.”. This completes the exposition of the book Holes by Louis Sachar.

In the book Theodore Boone Kid Lawyer the setting is the courtroom I know this because on page 54 it said "Theo you spend quite alot of time in the courtroom." And also the main charecter of the story is Theo because it talks mostly about what Theo is doing. That will raps this exposition up.

In the book School of Fear, by Gitty Daneshvari, the main setting is The School of Fear. The School of Fear is a school for kids who have fears that are uncontrollable, like if I was afraid of heights, but super duper scared of heights, I would never go up a building more than 5 stories tall, or never go across a bridge. That is how scared you would have to be scared of something to go to The School of Fear, but even more scared. Proof that the main setting in the book is The School of Fear: on pg. 19, it says "Many former students became fixtures in society while never breathing a word of their days at The School of Fear." As you can see, the main setting in the book The School of Fear is The School of Fear.

In the book School of Fear by Gitty Daneshvari one of the setting is Theo's apartment some other scenes are Lulus house and Madeleines home. I know this because in the book it said “Theodore Batholomew howled in the kitchen of his family's messy Manhattan apartment” The main characters is Madeleine, Theodore, Lulu, and Garrison.

In the book Holes by Louis Sachar, the setting is in Camp Green Lake. The lake is almost 100 years old and that is why it is not a lake any more. It is a dry flat land. The weather is about 95 to 100 degrees and sometimes when it is really hot it is 95 degrees under the shade. And sometimes there could be a sand storm or it is really dusty. There are scorpions, rattle snakes, and last but not least yellow spotted lizards. My group is not that far in but we probably all think it is Stanley as the main character so far. Stanley gets bullied. I know this because on page 23 "Derik had taken Stanley's notebook and, after a long game of come-and-get-it, finally dropped it in the toilet in the boys restroom.

In the book School Of Fear by Gitty Daneshvari, the setting as far as my group has read is going to be School Of Fear. I know this because, the book is called School Of Fear. Barely anyone knows about schools of fear. Every once in a while, the School elects new candidates so the word about the secret school can be kept. If the word is leaked by anyone, the kid who was going to get into the school is eliminated, even though the school might be their only chance of getting rid of their HUGE fear. The only way to be able to pass one of the entrance exams of the School of Fear is by having an uncontrollable fear, such as the problems the characters exhibit in the book. In the book School Of Fear, there are four main characters. The first characters name is Madeline Masterson who is afraid of any type of bug, even a beautiful butterfly. She has two bottles of bug repellent at her sides at all times and has a netted vail to keep bugs from her face. On page 10, it states "She grabbed her repellent and prepared to shoot. Don't shoot! a classmate begged." The second characters name is Theodore Bartholomew. He is petrified of dying. I know this because when Theo was twelve, his grandmother died. The third character my group and I have read about is named Lulu Punchalower. Her fear is small compact spaces such as elevators. I know this because on page it forty-five states "Lulu tried to bully the security guard into letting her climb the fire escape, but he politely declined". I cannot comment on the fourth character, Garrison Feldman because my group and I haven't reached his chapter.

In the book Theodore Boone kid lawyer by John Grisham, the setting of the book so far is the courtroom I know this because it says "They took a field trip to the courtroom." Another reason is that it says "Theo spends most time in the courtroom." page 20. The main character is Theodore Boone because the first page is called Theodore Boone kid lawyer. Another reason he is the main character is that on the first page it says, Theodore Boone was a only child in the first sentence.

In the book Theodor boom by John Grisham, the setting is the courtroom. I know the setting is the court room because Theo and his class took a field trip to the courtroom and it says on page 20 Theo spends more time in the courtroom more than most lawyers. Also he try's to play hooky on school to go this case at the courtroom that is to see if a charecter named Mr. Duffy is guilty or not. This completes the exposition of the book Theodor Boom.

In the book School of fear by Gitty Daneshvari, the main characters are Madeleine Masterson the with a faulty phobia of insects so she always wears a veil and keeps spray on her at all times. Then there's Theo with a disastrous and devestating dread of death. He must make sure at all times that he knows the whereabouts of his large family through texting and records it in a book literally titled 'Dead or Alive'. Lulu the rebel and claustrophobe. Who can't take the elevator(probably for the better) and if so will start hyperventilating. Finally, Garrison the cool kid and outrageous hydrophobe who would rather spend time of the field than in the water. I think all we need to say about him is that he is lucky to live in a landlocked state.

In the book Theodore Boone: kid lawyer by John Grisham, the setting of this novel is the courtroom. I know this because on page nineteen it sais," Well take a bus to the corthouse and we'll be seated in plenty of time." the reason why they went to the courthouse is because he knew the courthouse more than most lawyers. (Couldn't fined page number.) he thought going to the murder trial would be a fun thing for everyone because one, his parents are both judges. His mom is a devorce judge and his dad is a judge that solves crimes. Second, he spends most time in the courthouse because he has to do his homework there because his parents get out of work late on school days. And finally, every boy in his class are into crimes. The main character is Theodore. He likes to be called Theo. He is thirteen years of age. This is ALL the information you need to know why the setting is mostly in the courthouse/ courtroom.

In the book " Holes " , By Louis Sachar, the setting is at Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake is a Place were most people are forsed to work at but others have a choice of going to jail or Camp Green Lake. They are forsed to dig holes every day and the holes have to be 5ft wide, long, and 5ft on all angles. So far in the book there are two main characters. Stanly told the cops that the shoe fell out of the sky but they did not believe him. X- Ray, we do not know what X- Ray did to be forsed to work at Camp Green Lake yet.
